Today, solemn events were held at the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University to mark the beginning of the new academic year and the initiation of freshmen into students. They began traditionally with the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the blessing.
The solemn service, which was conducted by Father Mykola Shymansky, rector of the parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC, was attended by the acting rector of the university, Ihor Tsependa, representatives of the administration, teachers and employees, first-year students and their parents.
“Today we have gathered to ask the Lord God for blessings at the beginning of the new school year. Blessings for work, for studies, for new achievements. After all, studying is a great and at the same time difficult task.
We live in a world where war destroys homes, destroys property, and takes away peace. But there is one thing that cannot be taken away—the mind, will, and soul of man. If they are strengthened by God, they remain invincible.
Therefore, today I want to especially wish all students and teachers endurance, patience, love and wisdom. Studying requires concentration, balance and constant work. But remember: the knowledge and talents that the Lord has endowed us with are a priceless treasure. Use them for good and for the service of people.
May the Most Holy Theotokos intercede for us and help each of you to choose the best portion—to listen to and obey the Word of God. For blessed are those who listen to Him and keep Him in their lives.
“Therefore, I congratulate you once again on the beginning of the new academic year. May the Lord bless you, give you courage, patience, and love in your work. Study and teach — and may the Lord guide you on the path of light and wisdom,” Father Mykola wished the students.
Acting Rector of Carpathian University Ihor Tsependa thanked Father Mykola for the blessing at the beginning of the new academic year and the joint prayer, and also emphasized that spiritual unity and the power of faith help the university community overcome today’s challenges, inspire work and service to Ukraine, and contribute to the education of youth in Christian and universal human values.
